Tree Hounds Page

Welcome hound hunting enthusiasts

This site is dedicated to preserving the purity and integrity of one of America's oldest traditions.

Hunting with hounds is an exciting tradition that fuses:hunting, dog training, general woodsmanship and lots of patience.
As a 24 year old hound hunter who has hunted a variety of game including:bear, cougar, racoon, coyote and bobcat with my hounds for the past 8 years,I can honestly state that I am a novice hound hunter.Hound hunting is an expensive and time consuming hobby. It is enjoyed by many people from many walks of life. The dogs are what make it enjoyable for me.Although I must say that the meat that it puts on the table is second to none.

Bear hunting is my favorite thing to do in the world. It is fast paced over rugged terrain with an amazing number of variables.Coupled with the obvious danger of the targeted game, bear hunting is hard to beat.

Cougar hunting isn't as exciting as one may assume. Its like a glamourized racoon race, rarely lasting more than a half hour.Although any time you see a cougar in the wild you are blessed.

Bobcat hunting is a fast paced hunt which occasionally leads no where. My dogs aren't cat hunted regularly but can catch them.Bobcats are agile creatures with little scent.I have hunted/pursued bobcats in a variety of terrain and I have found that bobcat hunting is way easier in some places than in others.

Racoon hunting is an entertaining hobby.I wouldn't call it enjoyable at all.My home state of Washington is very rainy and cold during the winter and doesn't have a very large coon population.Making for lots of cold rainy nights in the woods.

Coyote hunting was an accidental find for me.It is taboo to run coyotes with hounds in this state. However I had one dog I couldn't break off of them and just started hunting him by himself and he does a wonderful job.Its not as exciting as running animals that tree but its better than spectator sports.

Lastly I hunt deer, elk, rabbits, grouse, pheasant, duck and sometimes bears with out dogs.I have hunted using:center fire rifle, shotgun and a bow.I would rather hunt with dogs any day though.

Hunting, fishing and trapping are an important part of our history as a country and will be a vital part of our future
From the original mountain men to Ted Nugent, our countries future is rooted deeply in our past. With technology expanding and cities growing our future will be greatly influenced by contacts with nature through traditional methods such as hunting, fishing and trapping.Contrary to popular belief, sportsmen are the truest of environmentalists. With out habitat preservation and protection of endangered animals, there will be little for our children and grand children to enjoy.Through hunting clubs I have belonged to,I have participated in events ranging from cleaning up garbage and meth labs in the woods to fund raisers to help stop the ballot box destruction of our wildlife management.
